Pat, and all converts~You strengthen me. If I hadn't been born into the Catholic faith, God alone knows where I'd have ended up. Age 8, car ride with my brother & his wife. He left our church to marry her. I remember being told I'd go to Hell if I stayed Catholic. Scared me, of course. Older & a tad wiser (maybe) I know they did it out of love. And when I think upon my unholy ways, at times I've considered finding a different faith. But I remain Catholic...not a good one, but not "in name only" either. Can sloth EVER lead to salvation? ;) But thank you all for shoring up my weak spots. Seriously!

Sue,
My "hook" was logic: mostly the topic of the canon, and then by necessity authority.

Those "questions" are what I mean when I imply that converts "have" something. We have curiosity, we are willing to ask the hard questions, and we are willing to act accordingly when we discover those answers that hide in plain sight. In the second video, Emerson asks his former CoC brethren to simply, "Question your church's history."

I suggest one simply asks herself how one KNOWS that the Bible is the word of God. If the answer is because "the Bible says it is God-breathed" then the question was not sincerely asked.

Thanks, Sue!

The interesting thing to me is the "hook" that brought him to the Catholic Church. For me, a Catholic ---> CoC (25 years!) ---> Catholic the "hook" was the verse in Matthew 28:20b "and surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age". If Jesus promised to be with us ALWAYS, how could there possibly be no Christians after the 1st Century until Campbell? Anyone else have a "hook"?
